Complex mixtures as this are susceptible to micro-contamination during their shelf life and they want their products to be at their optimum freshness and safety during this period of time. They believe it is a greater health hazard to come in contact with a microbiological contaminant than a preservative ingredient. They use preservative ingredients that are highly efficient and are included in their formulations at less than one percent. Their preservatives do not contain formeldehyde. Mrs. Meyer’s fragrances contain natural essential oils and other non-natural ingredients to ensure safety, consistent performance and quality.
